NYU Students, Activist Groups Rally to Save DACA

NYU LocalNYU student activists held a demonstration in support of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) on the steps of the Kimmel Center for University Life Tuesday morning. The coalition of activists who organized the event attended by roughly 70 people included NYU Dream Team, NYU Sanctuary and NYU Asian Pacific American Coalition while Attorney General Jeff Sessions officially announced the Trump Administration’s decision to rescind DACA.

DACA is a policy enacted by President Obama which allows people brought to the U.S. as minors to work and study in the country legally. The program, which protects successful applicants from deportation, does not provide legal status nor do recipients of the programs have access to welfare or student aid.

In a joint statement released by the three activist groups before the protest, the coalition called continuing DACA the “bare-bones policy of human decency” and called upon NYU students to support DACA recipients.  Read more.
